The Advancement of Maori Opportunity (AMO)
In March 2002, the relationship between a group of Maori leaders and AIO commenced when the American Indian Ambassador Class of 2001/02 visited Aotearoa (New Zealand) for their International gathering. The connection between the host group of Maori, who are now the AMO board members, and the AIO Ambassadors identified a need for a Maori Ambassador program which in turn formed the catalyst to establish the organization the Advancement of Maori Opportunity (AMO), who is now completing its fourth year of operation as they endeavor to support the development of Maori leadership potential. AMO seeks to influence the world and take an active stand for Universal Peace, Harmony and Empowerment by sharing fundamental Maori practices and values with Indigenous peoples around the world. AIO and AMO have developed a partnership to foster transnational Indigenous interaction and promote Indigenous leadership in a global context.
