Andrea Hanley (Navajo) reports that she and husband Kade Twist were very excited to attend the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in Washington, D.C. last September. The experience was both humbling and beautiful for Andrea, “It was great to see all of you there!” She still can’t believe that 14 years ago she, along with our own fab director Laura Harris, helped make this happen. Of course, both of them claim to have been only 10 years old at the time! On a more familiar note, Andrea is planning a lot of trips this winter. She plans to visit her cute cousin Rebecca Thompson (Navajo) ‘01/02 during Thanksgiving, visit Janeen Comenote (Quinault/Hesquiaht/Oglala) ’99 and Keith Egawa (Lummi), and celebrate New Year’s with Hankie Poafpybitty (Kiowa/Caddo/Comanche) ‘96 and her husband Raho Ortiz. Andrea reports that things are great in Tempe, Ariz. and that she loves to work from home fundraising for Artrain USA and working on art funding issues for the state of Arizona with a non-profit, Arizonans for Cultural Development. For those of you that don’t know (everybody knows except for you hermits!) Artrain is a five car train that is currently touring the U.S.A. with a contemporary Indian art exhibition titled, Native Views: Influences of Modern Culture. If any Ambassadors think your communities might be interested in bringing the train to your town or in partnering with Artrain, please contact Andrea. andrea.hanley@artrainusa.org
