Dear Alumni:

It has started! The Ambassador Alliance is no longer just something in the works but an actuality, and I am the “LaDonna.” Yes, I have been elected to lead the leaders, a network of Native American professionals – policymakers, community organizers, educators, philanthropic representatives, government leaders, business entrepreneurs, and arts and cultural stewards.

The Ambassador Alliance will employ the Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) international network of contacts and resources to extend community building and leadership development beyond the Ambassadors Program. Alliance members will engage in life-long learning experiences, participate in forums on critical issues facing Tribal America, influence public policy, reaffirm and share Indigenous values, and ensure the continued success of the Ambassadors Program.

In 2005, you should expect to receive your invitation to join the Alliance. Of course, participants who complete the Ambassadors Program are entitled to be a life-long Ally of the Ambassador Alliance. An Ally in Good-Standing will be entitled to benefits like invitations to participate in AIO gatherings and Wisdom of the People Forums, eligibility to be a Native American representative in AIO international forums, participation in Alliance group community initiatives, inclusion in the Ambassadors Program assessment and program development sessions, and training opportunities in the Indigenous Leaders Interactive System.

I would, also, like you to take a look at the Alliance Council Members who were elected at the Washington, D.C. Alliance meeting in September 2004. They will serve on a year to year basis.

I hope you are ready to move forward with your fellow Alumni, as we enact creative leadership and share our Indigeneity.

Respectfully,

Judy Winchester (Pokagon Band Potawatomi) ‘93
